Three layers, three jobs. How to dress for high camps without overpacking.
Most first-timers arrive with one massive down jacket and three cotton t-shirts. By day two they're cold, wet, and confused. Here's the system we teach.
Base: move moisture
Merino or synthetic, never cotton. Cotton holds sweat against your skin and chills you the moment you stop walking.
Mid: trap warmth
Fleece or light down. The job is to hold air. A 100-weight fleece during the day, a puffy at camp.
Shell: block wind and snow
A simple, waterproof, breathable hardshell. Ours weigh under 400g. You wear it when the wind kicks up at the ridge — not before.
